Welcome to SpinalongaIsland.info, a basic introductory guide
and visitors' photographs of Spinalonga, the small island just
off the north east coast of Crete. Spinalonga (or Kalidon as it
is often shown on maps) faces the village of Plaka which is close
to Elounda, popular tourist destinations on the largest and most
southerly of the Greek islands.
Spinalonga, a tiny piece of rock with a long and
complex history, has recently gained international prominence
through the various translations of the book and Greek TV serialisation
of Victoria Hislop's fictional work 'The Island'.
